Detective tips
Stuck? Think like a number detective
No guessing blindly required. These little rules of long multiplication turn a wall of x's into a trail of clues.
Put them to workStart at the right
The last digit of the product depends only on the last digits of A and B. It is often the quickest first clue.
Hunt for the zero
Exactly one of the two numbers contains a 0, and it is never the first digit. A zero adds no partial row, so the grid with one row fewer has the 0 in its second number.
Spot the copy
A partial row that repeats the top number, just shifted, means that digit of the second number is a 1.
Share the answer line
Both grids end with the same product, so every digit you uncover in one bottom line also belongs in the other.
Count the leftovers
Every digit is used only once. Whatever already appears in A cannot appear in B, which quickly narrows your options.
About the game
A tiny puzzle with a big personality
In the board above there are shown two variants of the same multiplication, by reversing the order of the factors.
Knowing that the two numbers are built with all digits from zero to nine, each used only once, your quest is to find the multiplication operation.
